What is Subtraction?
Subtraction means taking away!
When we subtract, we start with a number and take some away. Then we count what's left. It's like when you share your toys with friends - you have fewer left with you!
How to Subtract
1️⃣ Start with the first number (how many you have)
2️⃣ Take away the second number (how many you remove)
3️⃣ Count what's left - that's your answer!
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Apple Subtraction
There are 4 apples on the table. You eat 2 apples. How many are left?
Click on 2 apples to "eat" them (take them away):
Apples left: 4 - 0 = ?
Example 2: Balloon Subtraction
You have 5 balloons. 3 balloons pop. How many balloons are still floating?
Click on 3 balloons to "pop" them (take them away):
Balloons left: 5 - 0 = ?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Use real objects: Practice with toys, snacks, or household items. "Here are 4 crackers. If you eat 1, how many are left?"
- Make it a game: Play subtraction hopscotch - start with 5 jumps, then subtract jumps as you answer questions correctly.
- Relate to daily life: Point out subtraction in everyday situations: "We had 3 bananas. We ate 1. Now we have 2 left!"
